A quorum was not present, but the meeting was called to order at 9:06 a.m. by Chairman John Pfeiffer. Approval of the June minutes was postponed until the September meeting.

1. Communications: Reverend Jungkeit was invited to the meeting but was unable to come, he is out of town until August. He will be invited to the September meeting as the HDC does not meet in August.

2. Public Open Forum: no participation

3. Plaque Program Update: Martha Hansen
209 Mile Creek Road: Research is continuing.
5 Bailey Road: Alexandra Escher is interested in a historic plaque for her home, believed to have been built by Captain Cunningham ca 1820. Martha Hansen will work with her on the project.
26 Sill Lane: Caroline Ronchini has requested historical information about her home. Martha Hansen will contact her.
101 Lyme Street: The plaque has been delivered: Dr. Richard Noyes ca 1814 Carriage House.
10 Ferry Road: Douglas Lowell is interested in a plaque for this house. Martha Hansen has been in touch with him.

4. 26 Lyme Street new sign and awnings: Peter Carlson submitted a CofA application for a new sign and awnings. Mr. Carlson wants to replace the old awnings with new ones of the same style and color. The new awnings will have wording on the skirting with “Art & Antiques” on one, and “Interior Design” on the other. The existing “Antiques and Decorative Arts” sign will be removed, the plaque next to the door will be replaced by a small sign indicating the hours of the business. The square footage of the signage will not increase so
conditional approval was given so that Mr. Carlson may move forward with opening the business, and the matter will be discussed at the September meeting.
There were no objections from neighbors.

5. Secretary’s Report:
The handbook grant was approved in the amount of $3,200. The handbook is almost ready to go to print.

The HDC agreed to continue to support the annual Town Band Concert in the amount of $100. The concert and ice cream social will take place on Sunday, July 15, from 4 to 6 pm.

Active (Open) CofAs:
  • 55 Lyme Street, screening fence for propane tank and AC unit, September 2018.
  • 59 Lyme Street, LYSB new sign
  • 38 Lyme Street, renovations
6. District 18 Electronic Sign and Congregational Church signs and banners: discussion postponed until the September meeting.

7. Any Other New or Old Business:
The Historic Survey project has gone out to bid and should be underway by September. The survey will be paid for by grant of $30,000.

The HDC’s next meeting will be on September 17, 2018 to allow John Pfeiffer to be present. This is the third Monday of the month.

The HDC has openings for two members. If you are interested please contact the Selectman’s Office at town hall.
